Launch of our new #VisionMakers strategy

Today we're publishing our vision for the next three years – setting out our ambitious plans to support young people to thrive and make the most of their lives as they grow up.

The plan commits to bold action to provide universal services for young people, combined with targeted and bespoke support to address stigma, inequalities and inaccessibility.

It sets out a route map to provide reassurance in times of challenge, help build confidence and resilience, and support young people to have fun!

Priority areas for us over the next three years include:

  • Supporting young people to make informed decisions and challenge the growing surge of misinformation.

  • Support young people to maximise our opportunities, discounts and entitlements to support their wellbeing and improve equity.

  • Supporting young people to exercise their rights as system changers, influencing decision-making, and sharing power locally and nationally.

Central to the new strategy is the lived experience of the young people.

During 2021, we recruited a diverse group of young volunteers who named themselves #VisionMakers. The young volunteers set the future strategic direction for the information, opportunities and services we provide. This collaboration ensures that our work reflects the latest realities of growing up in Scotland over the next three years.

Elma Murray OBE, Young Scot Chair: “At Young Scot, young people inform, drive and challenge our work. This is part of our agile approach to supporting them and their peers – and they quite literally form the basis of the framework within which we operate. As such, it was only right that their lived experience was central to developing this strategy.”

“From social identity and equality, to wellbeing, mental health, activation of rights, and the climate crisis, both #VisionMakers and young people told us their priorities. This insight will drive our work over the next three years, and we will continue to seek their guidance as we implement our strategy.”

Kirsten Urquhart, our new permanent Chief Executive said: “Our new #VisionMakers strategy aims to reassure young people in times of challenge, help build confidence and resilience, and support them to have fun!”

“Today marks the start of this process; however, we can only succeed by developing and nurturing creative, equal, and productive partnerships. If you share our vision for young people and would like to be part of the exciting next phase of our journey – please do get in touch.

We would be delighted to hear your thoughts on our future direction and our plans. Please get in touch with us directly or Tweet us using #VisionMakers tagging @YoungScot. You can also follow #VisionMakers and keep updated on our progress.
